Reverend John W. McKenzie officially accepted the call to be Pastor and Leader of True Faith Inspirational Baptist Church effective December 1, 2017.

His educational journey began at Lake Sumter Community College, where he was the first African American editor of the school newspaper, The Angler.  Upon completion of that degree he went on to his beloved Bethune Cookman College, where he built tremendous relationsips with peers, as well as the college chaplain, the late, Dr. Rogers P. Fair, who "almost persuaded" him to become a United Methodist minister.  He attended the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville,KY.  While there he received the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Preaching Scholarship as well as other awards and honors.  He has done further study at Louisville Presbyterian Seminary, University of Louisville, and Reformed Theological Seminary in Orlando, FL.

He has served as a pastor since December 1982.  His first church was the Little Rock Baptist Church of St. Catherine, FL. He ordained and placed the first woman as pastor in the almost 100-year history of the DaySpring Baptist Church, Gainesville.

Pastor McKenzie's greatest joy is seeing his children daughter Rachel and son Samuel, whom he loves unconditionally, grow up and become outstanding individuals.  They are both exceptional students and Rachel is a graduate of Spelman Colege, Atlanta, GA and teaches middle school for Duval County Public Schools in Jacksonville, FL.

As was his challege by the late Reverend R. J. Boone at his Ordination Services on the 5th Sunday in May 1982, he continues to challenge all preachers to "Make full proof of your ministry."
